Sharks Gain Point in Shootout Loss

In the San Jose Sharks' first meeting of the season against the Detroit Red Wings, the Sharks mirrored the Nashville game script, losing a 3-1 lead and coming up short in the shootout.

Making his second consecutive start this road trip, Alex Nedeljkovic put up an .893% save percentage after facing 27 shots on goal.

Detroit's Justin Faulk kicked off the scoring, but the Sharks returned with three points for a short-lived two-goal lead.

The matchup had 12 total penalties combined, which resulted in two of the Sharks' goals scored by Dmitri Orlov and Ivar Stenberg, who now has five points in his past five games.

Sharks captain Macklin Celebrini scored the Sharks' second goal in the second period, and despite scoring last shootout against the Preds, he was unable to execute this game.

The shootout was decided by Detroit's Lucas Raymond, who scored the lone shootout goal.

The San Jose Sharks will look to bounce back on Monday, October 19, as the team travels to Toronto to face off against the Maple Leafs.
