Sharks full captain lineup
The San Jose Sharks have officially announced the new leadership group for the organization to play alongside the recently appointed captain of the team, Macklin Celebrini, for the 2027 season.
San Jose Sharks 2026-2027 Alternate Captains
Opting to elect all veterans to wear the letter "A", the organization has once again chosen to have two players to be alternates for home games and another two players to be alternates for away games.
Away Alternates
The two veterans chosen to don the "A" for away games include Tyler Toffoli and Darnell Nurse.
Although Nurse has yet to play a regular-season game for the Sharks organization, he had previously spent the past seven seasons being part of the leadership core with the Edmonton Oilers alongside captain Connor McDavid.
Nurse was part of a massive offseason trade where the Sharks and Oilers exchanged blue-liners, including sending Shakir Mukhamadullin to Edmonton.
Tyler Toffoli
Tyler Toffoli once again returns as alternate captain, originally being appointed during the 2025 season.
The veteran is inching close to one thousand NHL games, with prior experience in playoff hockey, which includes a Stanley Cup win. Experience the locker room is looking forward to having as they look to get back into the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
Darnell Nurse
Newly acquired defenseman Darnell Nurse is the only defenseman to be elected to wear the "A" on their chest. Beating the likes of Dmitri Orlov and other newly acquired veteran blue liner Jacob Trouba.
Nurse brings in 13 years of NHL experience and multiple Stanley Cup Final appearances while playing alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl while in Edmonton.
Home Alternates
For home games, Sharks fans can look forward to seeing both Alexander Wennberg and Barclay Goodrow having the "A" on their jerseys.
Alexander Wennberg
Making his return as a member of the leadership group is Alex Wennberg, who has been an alternate captain since the 2025 season, when he was appointed post-trade deadline.
Wennberg is a Swiss Army knife: a veteran centerman who can do it all. Put up points, be part of special teams, and be a coach's favorite two-way player.
Barclay Goodrow
Another veteran making his return to the leadership core is Barclay Goodrow. The 33-year-old has been an alternate with both the Sharks and the New York Rangers and represents the grit and ferocity the team looks forward to having every game.
The Sharks will look to showcase the captain group at the home opener against the Florida Panthers on Thursday, October 1, at the SAP Center.
