Tomas Hertl scored 3 unanswered goals in Philadelphia to push the San Jose Sharks into overtime and beat the Flyers. Brent Burns had an assist on each goal and Timo Meier earned an assist on 2 of the goals. The game featured the first time the Sharks faced goaltender Martin Jones, who they had placed on waivers for the purpose of a buyout last July. Jones is the only goaltender to ever bring the Sharks to the Stanley Cup Finals and was released shortly after the Sharks traded for Adin Hill.

The game was set for Sharks fans to finally see the battle between goaltender past and goaltender future. Adin Hill surrendered the first 2 goals while Jones held the Sharks scoreless for nearly 48 minutes. The Sharks almost seemed as if they were going to be shut out by their former netminder until Hertl, Meier, and Burns took control of the game. Hertl's hat trick is the Sharks' 8th natural hat trick in franchise history.

The Sharks have started the new year on the road and will finally return home to host the Detriot Red Wings on Tuesday, January 11th at 7:30 PM PST.

The Sharks went 2-2 on the road trip and will play 5 of the next 6 games at the Shark Tank. The only game of the six that is on the road will be the first time the Sharks play in Seattle.
