James Reimer returned to action, making 32 saves and posting a .970 save percentage. the Sharks strike first with a goal by Noah Gregor, getting off a 20 game scoreless slump, courtesy of a Brent Burns pass from across the crease. Nicolas Meloche's first career NHL goal, Jonathan Dahlen's 9th of the season, and an empty netter by Andrew Cogliano sealed the fate of the Capitals. The Sharks' win keeps them on pace with the Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars, who have played fewer games than the Sharks, for the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
