SHARKS FALL TO KNIGHTS 4-2
The San Jose Sharks returned to the Tank on Tuesday night to host the Vegas Golden Knights. San Jose has been on a 4-game road trip on the East Coast, where they went 2-2 and earned their first wins of the season. The show was stolen by Vegas' Phil Kessel who, in his NHL record-setting iron man streak of 990 consecutive games played, scored his 400th career NHL goal to give Vegas the lead after the first period.
The Sharks answered back in the second period with goals by Nico Sturm and Matt Nieto. Nico Sturm scored his fourth goal of the season. The 2022 Stanley Cup Champion leads his new club in goals scored after 9 games.
Matt Nieto's first goal of the season was scored on a breakaway, courtesy of an amazing leading pass by Tomas Hertl, to put the Sharks over the Golden Knights 2-1 after the second period.
The lead only lasted 55 seconds into the third period before Vegas tied the score. The Sharks would leave the rink with a 4-2 loss when the final horn was sounded. Many around the league were calling this Adin Hill's "revenge" game for having been traded by the Sharks early this summer. The San Jose Sharks are now 2-7-0 on the season.
