SHARKS DRAFT WILLIAM EKLUND
The 2021-22 NHL season is already generating much-needed excitement for San Jose Sharks fans as the franchise selected William Eklund in the first round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Eklund was one of the most popular prospects amongst the fanbase in Sharks Territory throughout last season and leading up to the eventual 7th Overall selection.
Eklund is projected to secure a main roster spot by scouts and the expectation from Sharks fans is that he will see ice time in a Sharks sweater immediately as the franchise desperately needs to rejuvenate its centerman and winger positions.
Draft Day in San Jose delivered all the thrills that fans would hope for when their club has the opportunity to reshape their destiny. Trade rumors floated around throughout the day (although none came to fruition), and speculation of key players being moved for the opportunity to secure more first picks kept fans on the edge of their seats.
The past two seasons in San Jose have been completely and utterly dismal for Bay Area hockey fans, but today Sharks fans rejoiced as the team was able to select the 18-year-old Swedish hockey player that was ranked by numerous outlets as being selected within the top 5 picks. Prior to Draft Day, San Jose Sharks' Director of Scouting Doug Wilson Jr. proclaimed that the team was not "trying to win the draft", rather they were "trying to win the Stanley Cup". Well, Sharks fans can agree that they have won the draft and have made the right step towards hoisting a Stanley Cup.
