SHARKS DEVOUR WINGS AND OCTOPUS

The San Jose Sharks returned home for a 5 game homestand (playing 5 of the next 6 games at the Shark Tank) and extended their winning streak to three games. Logan Couture, who was playing in his first game back after clearing protocol, scored the game-winning goal in overtime.

Timo Meier opened up the scoring for San Jose with his 15th goal of the season.

Jeffrey Viel fell an assist shy of a Gordie Howe hat trick, Viel had recorded a fight and a goal in the 3-2 victory over the Red Wings.

Adam Raska made his NHL debut and played in his first career game.

Detriot tried to spoil the Sharks overtime with a tradition of their own, throwing an octopus on the ice, but the good luck charm did not work in Sharks Territory and the Sharks were able to continue to play on the eventual game-winning shift.

The San Jose Sharks face the New York Rangers on Thursday, January 12th at 7:30 PM PST.
