PRESEASON: SHARKS DEFEAT DUCKS

San Jose continued their preseason perfection, remaining 100% on penalty kills and undefeated in exhibition games as the Sharks are now 2-0 with a win over Anaheim.

The Sharks dressed the "Group B" squad in training camp for this divisional rivalry game, giving fans a first look at Danil Gushchin, Tristen Robins, Jaycob Megna, Mario Ferraro, and James Reimer this season.

The Goals

The Sharks' rallied fast in the second hockey game back at the Tank, with Noah Gregor scoring on the first shot of the game just 17 seconds after the opening faceoff.

Less than 2 minutes later, Scott Reedy finds the back of the net, giving the Sharks a 2-0 lead.

Hunter Drew answered back for Anaheim a little past halfway through the 1st period, but Danil Gushchin's goal gave the Sharks a commanding 3-1 lead heading into the 1st intermission.

Jonah Gadjovich's 2nd-period goal and Max Veronneau's 3rd-period goal were enough to hold the Ducks off and leave the game with a 5-4 victory.

The Penalty Kill

Between the two squads, the Sharks' preseason special teams unit is a perfect 10 for 10 in penalty kills.

The Goalie Battle

Sharks Head Coach David Quinn shared with media on gameday that James Reimer would play a full game, just as Kaapo Kahkonen did in the preseason opener, shedding more light on the subtle goalie battle that is taking place in San Jose (as most teams elect to start minor league depth goalies or sub them in midgame during preseason action).

Reimer stopped 26 of 30 shots and posted a .867 save percentage and, more importantly, got the win for the Sharks. Sure, the stats are not so favorable for Optimus Reim in comparison to Kahkonen's save per minute average in the second period of the exhibition opener, but Reimer was playing with "Group B" last night and didn't have the support of Timo Meier, Tomas Hertl, Logan Couture, and Erik Karlsson. We'll have to wait and see if Quinn elects to rotate Reimer in with more of the Sharks' starters before we can fairly lean towards which keeper should get the opening night start.

Scoreboard Adjusted

The San Jose Sharks made a slight adjustment to how the new, and still under construction, video board hangs in the center of the venue. As reported by Corey Masisak of The Athletic, the Tank raised the videoboard so the players' bench can be visible from the press box.

The Sharks are scheduled to debut the completed scoreboard on opening night at the Tank on October 14th.
